Hello! We are Tom and Linda Moore. We retired from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex more than five years ago and found 95 acres of the best goat land anywhere. Our farm is located in Clairette, Texas. It lies between Hico and Dublin and 20 minutes south of Stephenville, Texas. It is filled with live oaks, white oaks, elm, wild plum, buck brush and many, many vines and brush patches - - all over the 95 acres. As with many “goat” people before us, Tom and I started our goat business with Boer/Spanish cross goats for the primary purpose of “cleaning up” under all the trees.
We were told that a buck could cover 30+ does. Well, 35 does, one buck and a little over five months later we had over 70 goats. There were little kids running all over the place! Of course, once you have baby goats everywhere you begin to wonder what in the world are you going to do with them all. The first time we had to take some little ones off to the sale, I cried.
We attended a Registered Boer Goat Sale a year later and were amazed at how many people wanted replacement does for their goat operation. A light went off!! Now, we had a plan. With two other couples, we purchased our herd buck, DDT War Dance (grandson to War Paint). We downsized our herd and converted to mostly 100% Boer goats with some percentages. Not only were we off to producing replacement does, but we also had an avenue for show wethers.
